Mark Ridyard's journey from actor/supporting artist and general dogsbody to beloved children's book author and singer / songwriter is a testament to the power of storytelling and the enduring magic of books and music. Born with an insatiable appetite for tales, Mark had his nose buried in books from the tender age of three, a passion that would shape his entire life.
He was born in his parent`s house in1964 (never being one to let the grass grow under his feet, he couldn`t wait to get to the hospital and decided to make an early entrance into the world). He grew up on a council estate in Breightmet in the town of Bolton in England. (No-one apart from the people who live there seem to be able to pronounce that. Br 8 met).
Drawing from his rich experiences in theatre, television and life lessons along with his lifelong love of children's literature and music, Mark crafts tales that blend whimsy, adventure, and valuable life lessons. His books show vibrant characters, imaginative plots, and the subtle way they encourage young readers to explore their emotions and the world around them while improving their reading pleasure and skills.
His books often feature themes of self-discovery, the power of imagination, and the importance of empathy. Critics have praised his work for its ability to captivate both children and adults.
Mark released his first novel Portals and Perils in December 2024 which is set in a fantasy world and involves a nice but chaotic young man who seems to get through life on pure chance, luck and a good sense of humour (we cannot imagine where he got the idea for that character from) which also includes a few hapless assassins who for some reason or another seem to keep wanting to kill him.
Author:
“I still maintain my childhood imagination & sense of fun. It`s so easy in the life of today to lose yourself to the story of life, which is why I feel that we all should make time for fun. When we approach challenges with a playful mindset, we create entire galaxies of potential solutions. This expansive thinking can help us navigate even the most complex asteroid fields of life. Remember, in the grand universe of life, we are all stardust capable of brilliant, radiant existence. By infusing our daily lives with imagination and play, we don't just exist; we shine. When I`m not behind a keyboard writing books i`m usually behind it writing songs. My father was a singer in my early years and professional comedian and singer in my later years who often got me up on stage (just to get him the aww factor I think so he could get way with one less song) this clearly was my first musical influence and gave me my motto in life... "Never forget how to play.”
